Please know that the amount of formula an infant may receive each month may vary from family to family. This contract is effective Novemthrough October 31, 2026. WIC clients and vendors have started receiving notification of this upcoming change. Mothers who fully breastfeed their babies are issued a larger food package that includes canned light tuna, pink salmon, or sardines. Michigan WIC currently has an infant formula contract with Similac (Abbott).
States had been allowed to provide clients access to infant formula brands outside of state contracts as the nation faced infant formula shortages due to a recall. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service is ending its flexibility of providing non-contract formula. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has announced that the Michigan Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program is transitioning back to its contract for Similac brand formulas starting Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
